Massage Therapy

Lu Ross Academy, founded in 1954 has set a high standard of training for those who want a career in therapeutic massage and bodywork. We value and promote the health care benefits that Massage Therapy provides.

The Massage Therapist program offers a unique educational experience. Class sizes are small and instructors have the highest qualifications. Lu Ross uses a cross-cultural approach to the body and healing by combining western and Eastern philosophies and applying both to what we call manual medicine.

In less than six months, a graduate can start working in medical offices, spas, private clients, or doing specialty work like sports massage or rehabilitation massage in hospitals. The explosion in growth of health spas and increased awareness of the benefits of massage have created a large demand for qualified massage therapist.

Our Curriculum
The M.T. program at Lu Ross Academy exceeds the requirements of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and most city or country requirements. The State of California is now considering adopting the standards of the NCBTMB as a state solution to the patchwork of differing city requirements.

The curriculum closely follows the requirements of the NCBTMB in areas of anatomy, physiology Kinesiology, massage/bodywork assessment theory and application, pathology, business and ethics and related subjects. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCE). Although the program is quit comprehensive, it is still relatively short. The course is based on the traditional Quarter system. It is 600 hours and is comprised of 2 Quarters of 10 weeks each for a total of 20 weeks of class. There is 1 week of exams after each Quarter and the Quarters are separated by a two week Quarter Break. Although there is ample time devoted to practice, both with classmates and clients, the emphasis is on classroom lecture and demonstrations.
