A cosmetology school, commonly known as a beauty school, teaches various beauty treatments such as cosmetics, electrology, hairstyling, manicures and skin care. Each state generally requires cosmetologists to obtain licenses, which have educational requirements. Lu Ross Academy is accredited by the state of California to provide the education needed for a cosmetology license in addition to other specific certifications.

LRA has been training professional cosmetologists from a single campus for 56 years. The total area of the facilities is 14,000 square feet, which includes six treatment rooms, five classrooms and a wet room. LRA does not promote a particular line of beauty products and its students perform services on real clients.
The programs offered by LRA include Cosmetology, Esthetician and Make-up Artist. These programs are short but intense, so students can start their new career quickly. They can also begin building their portfolio while they are still in school, since LRA partners with many professionals in cosmetology. The close proximity to Hollywood allows many graduates to work as make-up artists in the film industry.
Cosmetology deals primarily with hair, and this programs teaches students procedures such coloring, curling, cutting, permanents and straightening. An esthetician is able to perform skincare services including the following:

The National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences has accredited the cosmetology programs at LRA. Additional organizations have also approved LRA, granted licenses to LRA or accepted LRA as a member:

The Cosmetology program at Lu Ross requires about 1,700 hours of attendance. The program requires 33 to 40 hours of attendance per week, so the program takes 10 months to a year to complete. Classes generally start every two months. LRA also assists students in obtaining employment after graduation by maintaining a current list of job openings. Many employers in cosmetology recruit students on campus.
Lu Ross Academy Students can apply for financial aid through programs such as Direct Student Loans and Pell Grants. Students may also obtain financing directly from LRA at competitive rates. Members of the military may also qualify for financial aid under the Montgomery GI Bill. This program generally requires students to have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
